Green Hope soccer prevailed against a pair of Wildcat teams Thursday and again on Saturday to advance to the NCHSAA Men’s Soccer Semifinals.  These wins followed up a 1-0 squeaker against Middle Creek in the second round.

On Thursday, Green Hope beat the fourth-seeded Millbrook Wildcats 3-0.  Senior Connor Munz scored a goal to take the lead in the first overtime session.  Anthony Boswell added two sharp goals to seal the win and advancement to regional semi-final.

Saturday, the soccer team faced off against number 2 seed New Hanover.  These Wildcats entered the match 19-3-1. Jacob Sciandra opened the scoring for the Falcons with a goal midway through the first half.  At the 36’, Derek Walker created some separation with a goal to put Green Hope up 2-0.  Five minutes later, Zach Curtis added his name to the scoring sheet, putting the Falcons up 3-0 at the half.  Junior Camden Holbrook scored the final goal of the game, ensuring a Green Hope 4-0 win.

The story of the postseason for the Falcons has been their defense.  Green Hope has conceded a goal in their playoff run, outscoring their opponents 17-0 in their four playoff games.  The 26-1 Falcons will play East Chapel Hill tonight at 7:00 at home.  East Chapel Hill is an eight-seed in the playoffs and enter the semi-final match with a record of 16-5-3.  The winner of the game will face the winner Porter Ridge and Hough for the State Championship on Saturday.  The soccer team hopes to follow in the steps of the volleyball and women’s tennis teams with an appearance in the state championship.

The match tonight is slated to start at 7:00, admission is 7 dollars.
