The Green Hope’s 4 x 800 boys relay team made history on Saturday at the Penn relays. Henry Pehr, Ian Delgado, Jayquan Williams, and Matthew Kehn teamed up to run to run the 4×800 at a time of 7.41.01, placing them third overall in the race, but the top Americans as they finished behind two Jamaican teams. This time also earned the team the honor of having the fastest 4×800 relay time by a N.C. team ever, beating the old record by an impressive 2 seconds. During the pre-lims the previous day, the relay team set a PR in the 4×800 event, but astonished everyone dropping 6 more seconds during the final race.

In addition to being named the top 4×800 boys relay team in the country and breaking a state record, each boy was given a gold watch to commemorate their winning relay. Senior, Henry Pehr, reflected on the weekend saying “I’m still trying to wrap my head around the accomplishments we achieved this weekend. I’m so proud of my team and thankful for my coach’s support. All in all I learned a lesson from it though, you never see it coming you just get to see it go.”
