Green Hope Cross Country Races to the Finish

November 10, 2015

Saturday marked the end to the cross country season at the NCHSAA 4A state championship in Kernersville. The boys team finished in fourth place and the girls team received state runner-up.

In rainy and muddy conditions, sixteen of the top teams in the state raced for a state championship. The boys team improved from a seventh place finish last year to a close fourth place, and finished only 17 points behind the second place team. The Green Hope boys had the tightest 1-5 split, with the number one and five runners being only twenty seconds apart. Mount Tabor won their first cross country state championship beating out Broughton and Cardinal Gibbons.

The girls team was defeated by Cardinal Gibbons, ending their six year state championship reign. This was Gibbons’ first year competing against 4A teams. The difference between Cardinal Gibbons’ and Green Hope’s finish was only 4 points. The girls team was led by seniors Elly Henes and Morgan Adams who each received first-team all-state.

Both cross country teams have worked hard since the beginning of summer and are looking forward to a successful indoor track season.
