Soccer Secures Crucial Win Over Middle Creek

October 27, 2015

The varsity men’s soccer team took on Middle Creek last night in a momentous game that would greatly influence the fate of both teams.  Middle Creek (17-4-0, 12-3-0) was ranked second in the conference coming in, with Green Hope (14-4-3, 11-3-1) just behind them in third.  Green Hope opened the game with two goals within the first two minutes.  The first came from sophomore Camden Holbrook, followed less than a minute later by a magnificent chip from junior Parker Washburn.  The Falcons would not score for the remainder of the half, the only goal coming from the Mustangs to make it 2-1.

Neither team would convert again until the Mustangs scored the equalizer with twelve minutes left in the game.  Junior Anthony Boswell responded fantastically for the Falcons seven minutes later when he converted a cross to put Green Hope up 3-2.  This score would hold until the end of the game, handing Middle Creek their fourth loss of the season.

Junior Davis Linscott commented, “We faced some adversity but we stayed together as a team and were able to grind out the win.”
The Falcons take on Athens Drive on Wednesday while Middle Creek plays Apex.  The results of these two games will decide who takes second place in the conference.  The win over Middle Creek solidified a playoff spot for the Falcons.
