Green Hope Soccer Loses in a Barnburner

September 24, 2015

The Green Hope men’s soccer team fell in a close game last night at Middle Creek. The first half was an exciting one, with both teams scoring early and often. The game started off with a bang. Within the first minute, Connor Munz snags the first goal, giving the Falcons an early 1-0 lead. Middle Creek answered back, however. They scored two unanswered goals before the 20th minute of the game. Daniel Gutierrez tied the game with 19 minutes to go in the half with a  rolling shot that slid right past the goalie. Two more first half goals from the Mustangs flustered the Falcons a bit, but the team started to gain more confidence at the end of the half when Matt Ostrander scored in the 32nd minute to shave down the Mustangs’ lead to one goal. The tumultuous first half ended at 4-3, with Green Hope trailing. The offensive showcase of the first half didn’t really carry over into the second, but Middle Creek’s fifth goal of the night in the 59th minute started to put the pressure on the Green Hope offense. The Falcons didn’t back down, and Parker Washburn’s finish with 15 minutes left gave Green Hope a fighting chance. However, neither team could find the back of the net after Washburn’s goal. Middle Creek took the victory, with a final score of 5-4. The 6-3-3 Falcons fall to 4th place in the conference, and will look to avenge this loss on Monday against Athens Drive.
