On Tuesday night, November the 27th, the Green Hope Men’s and Women’s basketball team took on Holly Springs in a huge non-conference matchup. The women played at home, while the men’s team got to travel. Both of the Holly Springs teams are expected to perform very well this year, so it was a good early season test for the teams.

The Men’s team fought hard, but ended up falling by a score of 68-45. The talent of the Hawks proved to much for the Falcons, as they pulled away in the 4th quarter to secure their win. The problem started for the Falcons when Seniors Pj Fenton and Josh Savino went into halftime with 3 fouls each. Having limited minutes for the two really hurt Green Hope, as they were the two leading scorers on the team. Pj had 10 points and Josh with 13. Senior Ben Maske also had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. The leading scorer for Holly Springs was Junior Marcus Elliot with 21 points. Green Hope now has a record of 1-1, and their next game is on Friday against Millbrook.

The women’s team played a very close game, but also ended up falling to the Hawks in the end. The team started of hot, heading into the half with an 8 point lead. They didn’t let up, and they had a 10 point lead late in the 3rd quarter. Holly Springs started to surge back in the 4th, as Green Hope’s star player Nia Washington fouled out with around 3 minutes left to play. The final was 69-65, as that marked Green Hope’s 2nd loss of the season. Washington lead the Falcons with 27 points, a season high for her. The team goes on to play Broughton at home on the 4th.
