For those of us at Green Hope who grew up around football, Green Hope’s games are nothing out of the ordinary. But for international and exchange students coming from countries without a strong football presence, the games can be a very fascinating experience.

Kira Beckers is an exchange student from the Netherlands attending Green Hope this year. Last Friday, she attended her first ever American football game and watched Green Hope play Cary High in a “Frat Out’’ theme. For her, the event was like a whole new world.

What was your first impression of the game?

Kira: I thought it looked cool and we don’t have it in our country. I had never seen cheerleaders before then. It was also cool that there’s a place people can go to after school and hang out with each other.

What was the best part?

Kira: Getting to know more people was fun. I also liked cheering when we scored even if I don’t understand what was happening in the game. Everyone would go crazy if we got a touchdown.

Was it what you expected? Why or why not.

Kira: Yeah, it was what I expected because American people are so extra and a lot of what happened like the marching band and the other team walking in intensely was very extra.

Final thoughts?

Kira: It was fun and I’ll probably go to more games in the future.
