Last year the girl’s soccer team had a season to remember going all the way to the state quarterfinals. The team was led by a group of seniors and conference MVP Grace Wagner on their way to an undefeated regular season.  This year they return everyone but the graduated seniors, Wagner, Izzy Brown, and Camryn Dixon who are playing for NC Courage Academy.  However, the girls will be on an even playing field because no other academy players will be on the other teams in the area.  Coach Lamb is one of the most well-regarded coaches in the state, and will no doubt attempt to keep the team in contention for a deep playoff run.  The senior leadership on this team will play a big part in the team’s success, and they will hopefully discover some new transfers that will make big contributions.

Key Returners:

Catherine Holbrook:  The four-sport varsity athlete will be attempting to balance playing soccer with a commitment to running track this season.  She is the second highest returning scorer, making the most of the moments she got into the game.  True to her nickname “The Spark,” she will look to provide a game-long spark with her track stamina paying big dividends for the team.  Look for her to be the leader of this team, and a potential conference MVP candidate.

Anna Bevan:  Bevan has been a four-year varsity player for the Lady Falcons, and will definitely look to make this season one to remember.  She is the leading returning goal scorer but is recovering from a broken foot, which may cause her to get off to a slow start.  The biggest thing for her will be accepting a larger leadership role after losing so many players to college and the academy.  Bevan is someone who should definitely be named to the all-conference team by the end of the season.

Kacie Mollin:  Mollin isn’t someone known for her scoring ability, but is without a doubt the anchor and heart of both the defensive line and team.  She is another four-year varsity player and has gotten significant playing time throughout the years.  Her experience will come in handy for a team that is replacing almost their entire back line.  The chance that she makes the all-conference team is high.

Skye McKinnon:  McKinnon will be getting her first experience starting in goal for the Lady Falcons, and the Meredith College commit will be looking to prove herself a worthy successor to Lilly Dunn.  She will definitely have to be a solid keeper for the first couple of games as the girls’ find their footing and gain experience but expect her to have a big year.

It would be surprising to not see the Lady Falcons make a really deep playoff run with all of these returning seniors; however, a slow start would not be unexpected as the team works to gain chemistry and experience with each other.  Coach Lamb will definitely have them peaking during the post-season, and if everything goes right, the Lady Falcons could be hoisting a championship trophy at the end of the year.
