The Men’s basketball team opened their season last night with a dominating 66-50 at Fuquay-Varina. The Falcons lost three crucial players from last years’ team, Will Harkins, Alex Clinkscales, and Josh McVeigh. Despite the losses, Green Hope put up a ton of points. Last year, Green Hope scored over 66 points in eleven of their thirty-one games. According to Coach Green, the Falcons will be more offensive-minded this year and be better shooters. Even with this focus, Green Hope dominated on both the offensive and defensive ends to earn the win.

The Falcons return their leading scorer from last year, Ryan Shaffer. Shaffer averaged over 15 points last year. On Tuesday, Shaffer put up twenty points, while grabbing five rebounds in the process. Senior Jordan Bates-Williams, however, was the most dominant player in the game last night. Bates-Williams shot 50% from the field, putting up eleven points. He was in control of every aspect of the game, grabbing four rebounds and getting four assists, five steals, and two blocks. Bates-Williams took two charges in the match-up. PJ Fenton nearly scored a double-double, scoring fourteen points and bringing down eight rebounds.

Green Hope was in complete command for most of the game, even without senior point guard Chuck Hills. When the explosive Hills returns, the Falcons’ already potent offense, will get even more dominant.

The next game is at home against Apex Friendship on Thursday. Last year, the Falcons routed Friendship, winning by 51 points, and later beating them by 15.

Expect another Falcon blow-out on Thursday, so come out and support!
