Super Duper Saturday
Saturday was a day that will go down in Green Hope athletics history as arguably the most successful day ever.
The day started off at Burlington tennis center where the tennis team won a close matchup against Myers Park. The team was led by Katie Andreini and won the game 5-4. The tennis team will return their whole team, and look to defend their state championship in 2018
As the day went on, cross country had their state championship meet at Ivey Redmond park in Kernersville. The boys won the state championship with ease, including Finn Mcbride(2nd), Peyton Barish(6th), Ryan Kemper(7th) all finished in the top 10. Peyton Barish said “It was extremely gratifying to win a state championship this year, after what happened last year. We knew we wanted to get the job done, and leave no doubt on who the best team in the state was.” about finally winning a state championship.
The girls impressively finished 2nd and were led by Kelsey Vogel, Tess Davila, and Zoey Davila. Senior captain, Catherine Holbrook said, “We knew what we could accomplish all season and now it was just time to execute. Having all 7 under 20 was big and I’m so proud of all our girls. Getting second at the state meet was tough, but as a team we knew we would shock everyone.” on surpassing expectations and getting a 2nd place finish.
The soccer team kicked off their playoff run at 4 against Cary. The Falcons won 2-0 and advance to the sweet sixteen where they play Leesville on Wednesday at 6pm.
The night ended with another state championship from the volleyball team, who won in straight sets. They have now won back to back state championships and look to defend it once again in 2018, as most players return. Erin McIndoe stated “It felt like something we earned. We worked really hard everyday in practice and we earned this state championship.” after i asked her what it was like to win her second state championship in a row.
