Erin Boone committed to the College of William & Mary in August. The 6’1 senior has been on varsity volleyball since sophomore year as a setter/rightside. She has also played for Triangle Volleyball Club for the past five years. Erin won WRAL’s extra effort award and the sportsmanship award at States last year.

When did you begin playing volleyball?

“I started playing volleyball when I was 11, and was on my first club team when I was 12.”

What inspired you or pushed you to pursue a sport at the collegiate level?

“I was unsure if I wanted to play in college for a while. However, as I got older and started investing more time and hard work into volleyball, I knew I couldn’t leave it behind after high school.”

What schools were you considering before your commitment?

”Before I committed I was mostly looking at Duke, Elon, and Carnegie Mellon.”

What separated (school) from the others? ”William & Mary is a great school academically, has a great campus, and isn’t too far from home- everything I was looking for- but what really set it apart was the coaches’ coaching style and their goals to relentlessly build the volleyball program beyond what it was when they were hired.”

What was the deciding factor in your choice?

”The coaches were my deciding factor. As an athlete, you’re going to be around your coaches almost all the time and if there isn’t mutual respect, it won’t be a fun experience. It’s important to have coaches that support you, understand you, and can push you beyond where you thought you could go because they believe in you. The coaches at William and Mary do exactly that.”

Did sports prevent you from doing anything you would have done if you had not been occupied with sports?

”Of course there were social opportunities that I missed out on due to my busy schedule, but other than that I was able to handle school, photography, and volunteering pretty well.”

Who is the most impactful person you have ever had in your sports life?

”Michelle Fadool is the most impactful person in my volleyball career. She is an inspiring and supportive coach and I was lucky to have her as my coach twice.”

Do you know what you want to major in?

”I plan to major in business, though I’m also leaning toward a degree in healthcare, such as physical therapy.”
