Blake Watson (#1) announced his commitment to Old Dominion University for football in mid-July this past summer. He plays as a successful wide receiver and defensive back, starting on Varsity since sophomore year. Blake also starred in track, becoming an All-America runner and qualifying for states. He joined the baseball team as a junior, using his impressive speed as a pinch runner. Watson has scored six touchdowns so far this season.

When did you begin playing football?

“When I was six.”

What inspired you or pushed you to pursue football at the collegiate level?

“Because I’m good at it. I’ve played since I was young and it has always been a big part of my life.”

What schools were you considering before your commitment?

“Rutgers, Old Dominion, and Elon.”

What separated ODU from the others?

“I like the location, the coaches, and the team.”

What was the deciding factor in your choice?

“The location, the coaches, yeah.”

Did sports prevent you from doing anything you would have done if you had not been occupied with sports?

“No I don’t think so.”

Who is the most impactful person you have ever had in your sports life?

“My mom. She’s nice to me and loves me. She motivated me and kept me on the right track.”

Do you know what you want to major in?

“Sports medicine.”

What plays are you most proud of in your career?

“When I went to Florida for Pop Warner Football. I was like 10. It’s a big deal and you have to be really good to go there.”

Claire Melton, who would describe herself as “really rad” is a senior at Green Hope. She is joining The Falcon once again this year after being part of the staff last year. This summer she traveled to the beach, mountains, and Michigan. In her free time she likes to hang out with friends. Her favorite color is yellow and her favorite animal is a sloth. If she could go anywhere on vacation it would be Venice. Her biggest fear is thunderstorms. For her last year of high school, she is looking forward to graduating.
