John Healy is a Green Hope senior committed to swim at NC State. John did not need swimming to get accepted into one of the top schools in the state, given that his GPA is in the high 4s. His long list of accomplishments include Scholastic All -American, Olympic trial qualifier, and runner up in the 100 backstroke at the state championship.He hopes to help lead the Green Hope swimming and diving team to a state championship as a team and end his career on a high note.

 

When did you begin playing the sport that you committed to?

“When I was 4. I started on my neighborhood summer team.”

 

What inspired you or pushed you to pursue a sport at the collegiate level?

”I just always know I wanted to swim in college. I’ve always loved swimming.”

 

What schools were you considering before your commitment?

”NC State, Georgia, and UNC.”

 

What separated NC State from the others?

”I just really liked the coaching staff and the guys on the team.”

 

What was the deciding factor in your choice?

”How good the team is and how nice and friendly the environment there is.”

 

Did sports prevent you from doing anything you would have done if you had not been occupied with sports?

”Probably would’ve gotten to hang out with friends more and been able to take harder classes.”

 

Who is the most impactful person you have ever had in your sports life?

”My last two coaches I’ve had for club swimming. They pushed me to be my best, and have gotten me a lot of recognition.”

 

Do you know what you want to major in?

”Statistics because State has a good program and I’m interested in numbers.”

 

Is a glass half empty or half full?

“Half full because you have to be optimistic in life and look at the better side.”
