Class of 2018 Commit:  Jack Massei

Jack Massei is an ECU Golf commit graduating in the class of 2018. He has been SWAC first team all conference for all three of his years at Green Hope and got a top 3 finish in the 2017 state championship. Jack was an early commitment in 2016, being the second earliest commit for his grade. Massei loves the slow paced and “chill vibe” of golf.

 

When did you begin playing Golf?

“I began to compete seriously at around 8 or 9”

What inspired you or pushed you to pursue golf at the collegiate level?

“My dad has been in the golf business his whole life and my brother plays at the collegiate level so i wanted to follow his footsteps”

What schools were you considering before your commitment?

“I was considering almost all in state school as well as JMU and UVA. I went on visits to most of the in state schools.”

What separated ECU from the others?

“I’m friends with a lot of the guys on the team and i got along well with the coach.”

What was the deciding factor in your choice?

“Probably all the guys on the team were from this area and those were the guys i became closest to out of all the school.”

Did sports prevent you from doing anything you would have done if you had not been occupied with sports?

“Yea, im gone a lot so it just keeps me focused and out of trouble.”

Who is the most impactful person you have ever had in your sports life?

“Probably my grandfather because he keeps me confident and always knows what to say.”

Do you know what you want to major in?

“I think I want to major in communications and minor in psychology.”

Do you think student athletes should be paid in college?

“No, not golf because we aren’t really bringing in money to the school but it would make sense for bigger sports like basketball and football to get paid a bit”

Is a  glass half full or half empty?

“Half full because it sounds better”
