Green Hope Football has had a strong start to the season, with three wins and one loss. The whole team contributes to their success and hard work, and while the team’s skill players gain the attention for their play-making, the captains are the ones who keep the team motivated, focused, and composed during practice and games. The three captains are seniors Ethan Melton (safety), Paul Robinson (linebacker/running back), and Monte Williams (linebacker/wide receiver).

In what ways do you think you have strong leadership compared to other players on the team?

Paul:  People look up to me because I’ve been a starter for 3 years.

Ethan:  I’ve always been a leader and I like encouraging people.

Monte:  People like listening to me more than other people.

How has your experience on the team changed this year after becoming a captain?

Paul:  Nothing’s really changed because I’ve always been a natural leader.

Ethan:  I have more responsibility, people look up to me, and coaches expect more from me now.

Monte:  It’s harder because everything gets pointed at you when the team does something wrong.

What are your goals for the rest of the season?

Paul:  As of right now, we are 3-1, the goal is to make that 15-1.

Ethan:  As a team, I want us to finish strong and get better every week, and make a nice run in play-offs.

Monte:  Championship.

What improvements has the team made since last year?

Paul:  We are becoming closer knit and are playing for each other.

Ethan:  We’ve become closer as a team and our defense and offense have gotten a lot better.

Monte:  The O-Line has gotten a little better.

What has been your favorite part or memories of these past 4 years?

Paul:  I’ve only been on the team for three, but definitely growing closer to my teammates around me and creating friends for life.

Ethan:  My sophomore year, at Camp Dixie, I stayed in the varsity cabin and we snuck out and went to the older kid’s rooms. They were making tacos and hotdogs at 1:30 AM and we stayed up until the 5 AM practice.

Monte:  Brotherhood.

Which player(s) have really contributed and worked hard this season?

Paul:  T-Mobile (Willie Taylor) has really worked hard this season. He has thrown no interceptions this season, which is a big improvement since last year.

Ethan:  Max McIntyre works really hard at practice, and shows potential to be a leader and important defensive player next year.

Monte:  Blake, Bo, Jordyn, Willie, Me, Paul and Ethan because we make plays.
